what would you guys suggest to remove algae...seachem phosguar or a phosphate foam filter pad ffrom my lfs? i feel the phosguard would work better but the foam is cheaper does anyone have experience with these items?

IME seachem products work wonders. I have not used phosguard personally, but purigen did wonders even in small amounts in my tanks. I would go with the phosguard, especially if you are treating more than one tank. I recommend using a very fine mesh bag since the small granules tend to move around the tank otherwise.

I'm not a fan of the filter pads. I'd go with the seachem product. This isn't something I use on my fw aquariums but I have a phos-ban reactor in my reef tank. I use ferric oxide in it. It does a great job and is powered by a power head.

cool guys thanks...swede you mention putting it into a small bag? do i leave the bag in the tank? or put the bag in a filter?

put it in a filter, I have a small bag in my AquaClear. I put it on top of my floss to hold it down.
