What's interesting me is how photography has evolved since digital. in the film days, the final result was essentially a 'print' of your work. i've noticed that since digital, many people don't bother with prints and keep their images in an online gallery. so how do you do it and why? personally, i do print out images of my family and the occasional 'other' shot, depending on if the image has a purpose to me as a print.

I have found that I shoot less "family" and more my own "hobby" stuff. The family stuff, I print pics of my kids and try to be pretty regular for them, as they grow, to have photos to remember. I dont even put them online. I make Printable JPGs and store them in a "to print" folder, then once in a while I will send them to my printer.

For personal stuff, I almost never print them out, unless I sell a print, or someone asks me for a print of a specific photo. All my stuff goes into my online gallery (http://egfoto.com :) ) and is looked at once in a while and cleaned out of stuff I no longer consider "up to standard". I keep RAW files of all my images on DVDs in case I need them later.

Anything decent gets stored on my computer and backed up occasionally (now that I' thinking about it, I need to do another backup). The ones that I take primarily to post in the net get resized. The art shots get saved full sized & unedited and also resized with a watermark for posting on the net.

Things like vacation pics generally get printed out and sent to family, but I generally don't print any for myself.

Some of my better art type shots get printed and put in a little portfolio.

And I'd eventually like to get more published. I have a great book called "Photographer's Market" so I need to get off my butt and start writing some letters.

the major change for me is i have digital albums now. it's easier to share group pictures or even the aquarium pictures, making my scanner quite redundant, it really does...it's also lighter to carry a bunch of dvd's than a boxload of pictures when moving house.

i occasionally print some of my pictures just to frame up. but i haven't printed any of my digitals yet except on the office laser colour and home inkjet but i think it's a waste of resources to print it into albums nowadays.

in future there will probably be digital albums with bright LCD shaped like a coffee table book to show guests the family outings etc...

Mostly backed up onto DVDs. I started to print occasionally at home on 4x6 (Ilford paper), but I'm pretty selective about it.

Otherwise, for the paid stuff, I edit and send it straight to the print house.

My raw files get backed up to dvd at the end of each month. I print out an index sheet of all the images on that disk for a binder so I can see what is on that disk without having to load it. I then convert the useable ones to tiff to process. Once processed I determine if its going to be stock, art prints, or just forum posts. I have 30 free prints each month for a year so I have been taking advantage of that. I plan to print 8x10s for a portfolio eventually. I will also be making poster prints for family for the holidays.
