First sorry for the photo quality. My itouch leaves a lot to be desired on photo quality. Alright so here we go. On tuesday the 6th of Dec. my gf/fiancee had me call the LFS and order whatever I wanted for my birthday. I'd known this was coming for some time so I had been doing my research and chose a group of fish that I wanted to try next: red devils, midas, gt, A. splendens, and a few others. Out of them I picked red devils. When I called they could only get midas cichlids in with their next shipment. Knowing about the potential of this fish being a hybrid and the fact that it was on my list I went with it. I was told the fish would be in Thursday which fit in my plans perfectly.
The next day (my birthday) I took one of my dogs to the Deep River in Randleman, NC. Its a cool park area with an old fishing trail that follows the bank of the river for miles outside the park which is a great place to find driftwood. I found some really great pieces, four in all, which are in the process of getting cleaned up for aquarium use. Here are a few photos from the fishing trail.

Well thursday arrived and I called the LFS. My new piscine pal was there. So I told everyone I was going to get the fish and left for the afternoon. While gone I went to the jewelry designer who had been working on my fiancee's ring. While my gf knew about the ring for a while since she was in on the design she didn't know it was ready for pick up. I got the ring and picked up the fish. Here is the fish in the store still.

And some of him once home. By the way he rocks. He came here on 08 Dec and he already swims to the glass to watch me and beg for food.

Well Friday I was admittedly a little nervous since getting the ring felt bigger than it really was. But, I made a new betta tank that is still empty save for plants.
I used melted crayons to create the background. Nervous energy + school supplies + microwave=fun! And I do not recommend using the temp agency I used. My help kept stealing crayons, paper towels, etc.

All this led up to today. My grand plan as it were came together. My brother, his gf, myself, and my gf/fiancee met at a local park this morning. This park was one of the first places that my gf and I went to together and has become a regular spot for us to take the dogs to and dip net at. We hiked for a while and then I got the dip net and bucket out of the car. I dipped around for a while and only caught two 3/4" blue gill. Then I surprised my gf and to make a long story short I proposed. She said yes. Which was awesome.
Here is the ring.

On the way back to the car I dipped one final time. I almost dumped him thinking it was just another big bullfrog tadpole but nope. He's a bullhead catfish. Check out the eyes on this little guy. He was awesome but will be much happier in the pond. So after capturing him, then his image, I let him go.

Thanks for reading my fishy friends. Its been an awesome week. "I love it when a plan comes together."
