i have recently become very interested in these, i eventually hope to get atleast 1 in the future. does anybody keep these and/or have any care tips?

Never kept one personaly but there is nothing special to it. They are tropical pleurodire turts:D Very carnivorus they need a varied meaty diet, clean water ,warm temps and hidding places. The most unusual need is that they need sligtly acid water like matas to wich they are related. Can be agressive so if you want more than one be prepared to make a second setup;)
 
I've had Phrynops Hilarii. It is as Coura says, but, in the Hilarii, I had absolutely no signs of agression between the two.

Do a search on the web. Check Melissa Kaplan, Austin Turtle's page, and others....

i love austins turtle page! im on it all the time, atp reccomends a minimum tank size as 180 gallons, is this true or would something like a 125 work provided there was an out of tank basking area

Well tecnicly the bigger the better;) Remenbar this are big turts. Ive seen some the size of large cooters:D
 
very very very quickly ( at least the Hilaaris. ) frighteningly so.
 
are they more like painted turtles in the amount that they swim
or are they more like musk turtles
 
not at all like musks...do not know about painteds.
