Where the Parachromis roam...
I had been looking for a Red Devil for a real long time, finally my LFS got some in,there were about 20 of them in a 20 gal tank.I found this 3" guy hiding up in a corner getting pounded by the other Rd's so i bought him brought him home, when i 1st put him in the tank he got bullied right away by the other fish,Dovii,Umbee,Texas,Dempsey and even my Bellycrawler Pike.Well over nite he has claimed the #3 spot on the tough guy list.Only backing down to the Dempsey and the Texas(they are slightly larger than he is)he and the Dovii lip lock every now and then (turns out to be a draw usually)he owns the Bellycrawler,my grammode and the Umbee(for now).Eventually i will downsize but i am sure i will keep this tough little S.O.B.:headbang2

How big is that tank? That's some assortment of big mean fish. That tank might downsize itself before long.

Red Devils can be unforgiving and "Phsyco".

Its really being used as a grow out right now,i will eventually thin it down to 2-3 frish or just go Umbee and put the Dovii in the Basement Pond once i build it.

i dont see any of those 3 coexisting. never owned a umbee but i heard there right up there with dovii for aggression and if thats the case you have probably the 3 meanest cichlids in the hobby. even if you move the dovii that leaves the texas rd and umbee. good luck. hope it works out for ya

The word Devil is in the common name of the fish for a reason.

thats a mix that mother nature will eventually sort out. not to sure about umbee but the texas and jd are problem going to become fish food for the dovii and or rd. my current red devil is in a tank by himself after he went crazy and killed the mated female he had been with for about three years. my jd and texas that i have had have never shown the aggression that my rd has. i am just getting into the dovii, picked up a batch of fry about a month ago but i have read legendary stories about their levels of aggression ... good luck

Problem is i have spent so many years looking for these fish around here that they all showed up at once and i bought them all.I am mostly interested in the Dovii and Umbee,i have an extra 55 gal tank laying around so i can just through the devil in that need be.The others i am trying to sell or trade off.

lol.. Yes red devil's are aggressive they just can't fight against a jaguar cichlid or a dovii cichlid the parachromis Species have big mouths and teeth which means, they devil's face will be in the dovii's & Jaguar's mouth.
