this was a catfish i caught at my local lake last summer. dont know why it took me so long to get it on here, but here it is. i think its a yellow bullhead. it was the first catfish i have ever caught, at 12"
it swallowed my hook whole

I was watching a fishing show and the anglers were catching monster catfish and were hooking them on the lip... I have no idea how they kept pulling them out like that!

not bad for a bull head I love catfish fishing a lake here known for big cats average size 20-30 inch and people caught bigs ones around 40+

Nice catch. First one I caught in my ignorance did not know aboiut that little spike they have and poked my thumb which was swollen for couple days.

In order to prevent catfish from constantly swallowing the hook, use circle hooks. When the fish takes the bait, start reeling (NO HOOK SET) in and the fish will hook itself right in the corner of the jaw every time.

the thing is, I didnt know it was a catfish at the time, so I set the hook like I would with bass, which is what I was angling for
