4-5 pictus won't work in a 55. maybe 2. They're really territorial.
And clown loaches will out grow the tank.

I think 4-5 pictus cats should be fine in a 55g for at least three years, they only normally get to around 8 inches and they grow extremely slow.

I'd say Raph Cat because none of the other suggested combos will fit in your tank.

Striped Raphs are awesome, get one or two and some spotted ones too.

The list has changed:
1 4" green terror
1 4" common pleco (it was in a really small tank and had to take it)
8 1.5-2" giant danios, 2 committed suicide

I will try to find a better home for the pleco in the future and i will try to pick up two striped or spotted raphaels. if all else fails i will go with pictus and/or more plecos.
