OK, I just rearranged my stock into their homes for the distant future. I moved my green sun's into a 45 by themselves. Moved my green texas's and raphael cat into an adjacent 45, opening up my 29gallon for my first real planted tank...

Here's the set up:

-standard 29 gallon with 12x30x20

-Hamburg Matten sponge filter (pre cycled 2x12x20 sponge) on one end with a 160gph powerhead behind it. (Creating a 12x27x20 tank)

-black/brown aquarium sand/plant substrate with some bits of bigger gravel from my busted-but well seasoned 90 gallon. About 3-6" thick on the bottom.

*Will attempt to heavilly plant as I only now have a small anubus and a java fern, both were thriving in the 90, till I probably killed them placing them in the pond temporarily*

-low to mid bright lighting-crating swamp like biotope.

-Temp set to ~80-82*

Now, I have 2 small 'ancient' fish that I can keep in this tank for a few months and neither will harm the plants and are air breathers if I decide to turn off the bubbler and add CO2, also the reason I am posting in this section... :D

a. Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri - about 3-3.5" and adorable! (a little bigger now-but not much)

b. Papyrocranus afer knife - last I saw it was about 5" and always hiding from me in my oscar tank (2 Oscars x7 silver dollars-small- and a sydontis cat in a 90g)

No pics, but this is a darker mostly noctournal fish that I have dubbed 'The fish Ninja' :headbang2

I know both will outgrown this tank at some point, but they are babies and would do well in a planted tank IMO. Should I try both fish, or one over the other and why?

Well since no body helped me out here I had to do it myself... lol...like anyone else would care for my fish the way I do!

Here are 2 pictures with one CFL 10W flood(3400K?), I am also using a 7W T8 6500K to light this litte 29 gallon, as I want some plants to grow in here...No fake decor-none but my knife hide-out!

Yes the knife is in both pictures.
Kinda scrawny, don't think he wasn't eating much in my 90g oscar tank, even though the O's left live earthworms alone...I would have thought this guy would have ruled the night, but 3 weeks have proven me wrong.

There are live bloodworms all over this tank-leftovers from he 90G the substrate came from, and this fish seem disinterested. Leaves tilapia pieces alone too. Maybe I need to get some breeding guppies and see how long that lasts. ;)

Right now he is very content on hangin out in the one area of little current and in his little fake rock house. Total stress free environment.
