if i cant use it... can i salvage any parts ( the media especially) to use on my HOB's?

here are some pics:

JB weld. It'll fix anything. Modern day duck tape.

I agree 100%

how much is JB weld, and is it guarenteed to handle the pressure?

JB Weld is awesome. It's around $5 at any auto parts store. I read a story where a guy cracked a cylinder head at a racing event. He patched it w/ JB Weld and aluminum. He finished the event w/o a failure and continued to run the head.

At work we got a brand new bobtail (delivery truck) dirt cheap from a dealer in Salt Lake City (around 650 miles away, up and over a the sierra nevadas). Once it got out here, the engine block cracked right on a cylinder. We patched it with JB weld and drove it all the way back to Salt Lake City. No problems at all. It handles heat, pressure and just about anything else you want to throw at it. One word of caution would be that the JB Weld held seam will be stronger than the rest of the canister :)

You should be able to pick up a new base unit from fluval, there is no way that I would be looking at repairing that. One day you'll come home to find the entire contents of your tank covering the floor, I just wouldnt risk it.
