Really stoked about this one-
Walked into my local fish store up here and low and behold they have a damn african in stock...Needless to say it's the first one up here and it was all of $45 so I scooped it up and brought it home...
It is right under the 3 inch mark.

Anyproblems houseing this guy in a 72 gal bowfront with 8 dats around the size of 1 inch to around 3 inch.......

Whats the diet consist of-Same as Silvers and Jars?

Is it true that they wont grow as big as Silvers....
Sorry for the newbie ?'s....:headbang2

Completyly different Diet than any other Aro, Feed it 4times or more daily with a mix of: Brine Shrimp, Bloodworms, Blackworms, Daphnia, Sprinula, Mysis or any other planktonic food. Ensure they have a steady and almost constant food supply(add prefilters over you HOB or Canister intakes) until they reach 6" you can then WEAN them onto pellets but not starve them at all. Search African Arowana with post made by Me, Hao and Oddball, also Madding for how to care for them while they're so young good luck.

PS: Large water changes everyother day to ensure the water stays clean due to all the feedings

Good thing I asked then......
What are blackworms though....I dont have access to these up here..Nor most of what you listed either....shipping it in-Forget about that up here....I can get some stuff in a frozen variety-will this be ok or no?
What about smaller earthworms?
Off to search I guess

yeah africans demand more feedings and a lot of it lol. def try and get it on pellets as it will make feeding a little easier.

Thanks...I have no problem with the feeding part....Now the type of food thats a little problem....I still have alot of reading to due....But I hope to get it on a seafood diet like the rest of my fish. I'm not big on pellets cause nowhere up here carries a pellet large enough for my fish nor one that sinks...lol

It's a Planktivore so it may just spit anything out that is big you cant get Brine shrimp or Bloodworms or even Daphnia (aka Water fleas?) ? Do your best to get some food soon they're very fragile at this age

Don't have any experience with African Aro's, wish I did they're a fish I've been wanting for along time. A really sweet pick-up! As for brine shrimp, even in your area you should be able to get a hold of them. If not from a pet store order mail order sea-monkeys they're brine shrimp the names just a clever marketing ploy. Lol! They breed readily are very easy to keep and come as dry eggs in the mail so no D.O.A.'s. They send you everything you need including the salt for keeping them properly. Then all you need is a very fine mesh net scoop 'em out rinse 'em off and feed. They live in freshwater for awhile so their movements will also help stimulate a feeding response. Good luck and hope that helped you.
