Picked up a new uro

Was at the lfs yesterday... and say this guy staring at me

As you can see, he's got a spot of HITH, but I'm sure that'll clear up soon. Anyways, I asked the guy if he could bag him up for me, and he brought out a styrofoam box and a garbage bag. Of course, I made no comment (stupid me!). Since the garbage bag was so big, he had to fill the thing up with a couple gallons of water, making it very heavy. So then I'm putting it in the trunk, and a hole bursts right in the middle. The styrofoam thing fills up with water in seconds, and of course, the Styrofoam thing starts leaking all over my car Then I run in the store and the bring out a bucket and some towels and put the fish in that...

Luckily, he survived the incident fine and dandy and is currently residing in a 55g with several other cichlids & plecos... here are the pics

So far so good, I was afraid he'd be pickin' on the other guys (which range in size from 1'' to 9''), but so far he just ignores them, sometimes they even snap at him

His buddies include a jack dempsey, red devil, convict, sal, juvie jag, another uro (juvie) and two plecos. Yeah, i know its overstocked, but so far so good

How do you plan on treating the HITH? Have you successfully treated it before and have all signs of it disappeared?

Yes.... clean water is all you need in a minor case like this.

Except for the pock marks, he's a fantastic looking Uro. It's a shame someone before you didn't take good care of him. How big is he? Will the scarring really clear up? I would have thought it's permanant.

Thanks. He's about 10-11'' haven't measured him for sure. I think the HITH will clean up soon... but only time will tell i suppose- i don't know how long he was like this.

HITH just doesn't go away. You have to do water changes every day and use aquarium salt or meds. The uro will only get worse if you don't, and possibly give it to the other cichlids. Its ashame, becasue that is a really nice looking one.
