So I'm working on a new tank and picked up some landscaping rocks from Home Depot today for it. Anyways I'm just wondering how I should go about cleaning them? I washed them off because they had a bunch of orange dust all over them and I have them soaking in the bathtub now. Think this will clean them good enough if I soak them for a while? Will they break down over time or mess with my water at all? Thanks and sorry for the dumb question just wanna make sure

I hope they work because they will make some nice layers and caves for the clown loaches

Got any muriatic acid? Put a few drops on each one and see if it fizzes, if it does they could be a problem.

If they're what I think they are from the pix it's mostly quartz with is ok.

I dont have that but I'd pick some up. Any place I could find it? Not sure if it helps as to what it might be but they were like $4.50 each from Home Depot (quartz usually run pretty cheap?). They are a little sparkly so I guess it could be quartz.

HD sells muriatic acid cheap. The only thing I would be worried about is the brown, it could be an iron based mineral. If you wanted to be super paranoid (I guess how expensive the fish are), you could put it in a bucket for a few days and then test the iron content. Make sure the test tests for all iron and not just chelated.

Other than that they look cool!

just put 'em in the tank of ur toilets. every time u flush, u do a complete rinse. leave 'em in there 4 a few days, then take 'em out to test 'em

just make sure you don't use any in tank toilet cleaners or toilet blue if you are putting them in the toilet tank - would most likely be toxic to fish!

when I got some rocks from my local landscaping supply place I scrubbed them and then boiled them for approx 10 mins
