soo since today was fish delivery day i figured i would go to the couple of different chain stores we have here and see if they got anything interesting in today, main thing i was looking for was a nice bgk and the petsmart usually has them, well they didnt get any in today for some reason but in the tank beside the bgk label were these little geos labelled surinamensis, i realize they are not true surinamensis i was just soo stoked to see something besides JDs that i picked up all 3 babies they had in the tank lol (apparently it was the first time they had gotten them in, talk about coincidence since i hadnt been to petsmart in months haha). and i had kind of been wanting to have my geo school be larger than just four anyways so once they are finished with quarantine and a bit larger they will be added into the big tank with my actual wild caught Suris. they are super tiny like only 1.5in so not showing any color at all yet really so will probably be awhile haha. i did have one question though, the 10g quarantine they are in is bare bottom, should i add a couple cups of sand from my big tank for them to mess with or will they be ok for awhile without the sand (i didnt know if this would stress them or not)

will try to post pics when i find my camera...

I've been buying these little guys up whenever I can. They usually receive them 2 at a time at the Petsmart I shop at. I've got 6 so far, aiming for around 10 total.

yeah i have 4 actual suris and they had 3 in the tank at petsmart so for my tank only being 120g i think that pretty much rounds out my school :) cant wait for them to get bigger and i can see better what they actually are lol, im hoping i will still be able to tell them apart form my current fish when they get some size to them so i can be sure to know which are the wild suris and which are the pet store mystery fish haha

soooo will they be ok on bare bottom for a month or 2 or will this stress them out to much?

You should definately add some sand.

I have 2 of these "surinamensis" from petsmart. I bought them at like 2" and now 2 months later they are about 3.5". Their growth isnt all that fast but amn they are getting some color to them. Their fins start turning red and orange, and their body covered with green lines.

This is a pic of when i got them barely showing any color.

Im sure they will be fine, but adding a lil sand never hurts lOl

Im guessing Geos are "in season" over here since different species have been popping up at different LFS

ok i think i will add a few cups of sand then from the big tank when i do my water change later today, thanks for the pics Gruntking! yeah i know they are slow growers my actual suris are definitely growing very slowly as well, the largest is only about 4.5in if that and iv had them for about 5months now (has only put on like 2in :( ) but they are showing some awesome color already, these little petsmart guys aren't showing any color AT ALL yet haha they are really tiny, i just have to wait until they are big enough to not be straight up swallowed by my arg or considered fair game by my del haha, i doubt my arg would mess with them but the del might think they are a snack if i added them right after their quarantine period was up, but yeah they are def not actual suris then if yours is what they will look like, my suris always show a black spot in the middle of their bodies and have more defined lines of color going down their sides...thats kind of good though because then i should have a problem being able to tell them apart once they are all grown :)
