pickerel tank mate

i currently only have a small grass pickerel in my tank and im thinking its pretty boring, i was told the lepomis species dont go well with pickerel but is this an issue of competition for food or the lepomis picking on the pickerel? are there any native species that people have had success with a pickerel,

I can't think of much, but do be careful since the pickerel as it grows becomes more predatory. caught a 3 foot pickerel in maine once and it really looked like a mini FW barracuda. not really sure what is available in virginia either.

clifton, eh? I assume you purchased the grass pickerel then? I've had success keeping a redfin pickerel with a warmouth. Just make sure they are of similar size and you should be fine.

guppies, small goldfish, darters.......will all be food

I had a Pickerel for a little over a year, and sorry to say it but there really aren't any good tank mates for them. They will either eat it, attack it, or get attacked themselves. You might be able to raise the temp to 72 and try some larger Bala Sharks with it.
