hardness? 7.5 is pretty neutral pH, but soft water fish from south America don't do well with long term exposure to hard water, often develop HLLE, pitting in face. And centrals like yours do better is water which is harder with more dissolved mineral content.
For centrals, I might do a pair of your favorite 12" max fish. Amphilophus lyonsi would be a good choice. A divider on hand would be smart for a breeding pair of large cichlids in a 4' tank.
For a community, I would look for smaller fish like panamensis, hericthys tamasopoensis, centrarchus, amatitlania species. Or, a large group of thoricthys would be nice.
