hystrix3.jpgtank 600 gallons 120 x 48 x 24. I have a friend here who breeds Motos so I have the option of getting a few of those black rays are just out of the price range at this point. I will be breeding these and with this much tank space I can divide it off when needed. I also have other tanks for pups and such. I added a pic of a hystrix that I like the looks of but not sure if it's a hybrid. I like how dark it is does anyone know if it's a hybrid or what it is? The Ray in the FRONT of course the darker one. ID PLEASE

Also could I mix motoro and hystrixs??

That is a hystrix in the picture, not a hybrid. Some hystrix are dark, some aren't, that one might be as dark as it is because of the sand. Some species change color overtime based on the sand they are one.

Mixing motoros and hystrix can be done, just be aware that the motoros might out compete the hystrix for food, you will need to be sure to feed enough. Secondly as big a that tank is a motoro female can grow up to 24-30", so she will fit but not have allot of space. This is many years down the road of course, wouldn't be something you need to worry about immediately.

If you go with just hystrix I would say 2 males and 4 or 5 females would make a great breeding group in that tank.

I feel even a couple big females will have lots of room. I know more is always better but really cant get much larger of a tank for rays. Thanks for the info on color. So if I like the darker color should I get black sand? I think I prefer in just other tank more of a white sand.

when he said they could grow 24-30" he means just the diameter of the disk and motoros have pretty long tails as well, but yes a 10'x4' tank is quite lare but since it is only 2' deep it will be difficult for the males to flip the large females for breeding

Yes I am aware he is talking about just the disk. I do know a good amount as said a friend breeds rays and I am an avid reader. And I understand what's ideal And what works And what we might dream we had the money for. Lol

Your tank is fine for a long time and you will be able to breed easy in a tank that size

Get 2 females and one male

Marble motoro would be better but they are a bit more expensive

Ya I agree they are very nice but more expensive. I would even be happy with hybrids. Or what not anything that has great color and pattern.
