Got my Oscar almost 2 weeks now. He is very picky when it comes to food.
He prefers mussels, I think he is dissapointed when I come with something else, because he sometimes spits the food out and ignores it.

Things he spit out or ignore are:
- Artemia (frozen)
- Cichlid mix (frozen)
- Cichlid pellets

Things he does eat:
- Mussels (frozen)
- Krill (frozen)
- Small fish (frozen)

I sprinckle his food with sera fisthamin sometimes, just to make sure he gets all the vitamins he needs.

I noticed he now has white stringy poo, and it takes a while before the poo drops to the ground. He doesnt have any holes or dimples on his head, so afaik its not HITH.

Is it possible the white stringy poo and the problems he has to poo, are because of the food he eats? Im trying to give him a variety of food, but he is just so picky! How can I solve his pooing problem? Should I give him some vegies? But what if he ignores them or spit those out too?

Ok ill try that. If he starts eating pellets, would that solve his poo problem?

If you add garlic paste to any of the food its not eating it acts as a flavour enhancer for fish.
Its like adding MSG to a McDonald's Burger it may taste rotten but the flavour enhance makes you think you love it.

crickets and frozen blood worm i have a 15" Oscar and he is very picky but i dont know a fish that will turn down frozen bloodworms

Thx for the info. I gave the oscar some living crickets from a petshop two days ago, he ate them. Im gonna do that 3 or 4 times a month, feeding him live crickets.

Ill go buy some tetra cichlid sticks.

I would feed pellets (preferably NLS brand). If he doesn't eat, then don't feed him for a couple days and try again. Might seem mean, but it's for the best. Also if he is constipated try adding some Epsom salt in the water, it is a natural laxative.

Another good thing to feed a fish to help with digestive problems is shelled frozen peas.

Thx for the help guys.
Ill give him pellets tonight, if he doesnt eat them, i wont feed him for a day or 2, like suggested. And then ill try again.

Im using the New Era Aquaculture Cichlid Pellets American.

Ill have to check if we have some peas in the freezer here, otherwise ill have to buy a small amount of them.

EDIT: The other fish (2x GT, 1xJD) are just eating normal. The water quality is good too. Could his constipation also be from stress? Because I also see him turning pale sometimes.
