We have a motoro stingray, she is our first. She is around 5 inches in disk. The question is she loves her silver sides, however we have noticed that the silver sides need to be beheaded before she eats them, is this normal behavior. Water perimeters are fine and she is active just has odd eating habits. Shes not bugged by the other fish asking for thoughts and opinions and experience here. Thanks in advance

Sounds normal to me, my ray would spit out the heads of some fish but eat others whole. Guess they don't like the taste of brains! What else are you feeding besides silversides? Does she eat worms, shrimp, pellets?

sometimes she may eat blood worms, she pounces on them at least but mostly beheaded silver sides we have only had her maybe a week tops. Gona allow a bit more time to fatten her up so i can try more easily accept foods like shrimp, squid, and octopus.

Along with the blood worms try chopped up fishing worms, they really like those. Also, red worms are great for smaller rays because they usually don't need to be chopped up, they are already small. Worms are also easy to inject with vitamins if you feel your ray needs them. I get my worms from a local bait shop, but red worms can be ordered online. Good luck with your ray!

Thanks hummm dew worms are a good idea, i culture them for my fire eel who is hand fed, didn't even think about letting them sink for the ray. Thanks

Stingrays are funny fish Mine will eat the heads of fish but not the bodies, I guess there all different and won't touch prawns.

well thats a sigh of relief, mine wont touch MS ether yet. Sounds like it may be just preference. This is the first fish ive had that has actually been this picky. I mean ive had other predators but none that have never only wanted a specific part of the fish and that's it.
