nice fish. it's interesting to watch gars eat. they have narrow mouths, so once they grab the food, they have to position it so that it goes down smoothly. they usually try to turn it around so that it goes down head first or tail first. now, i know why they take so long to get on a hook. i recall my early days of fishing, where i'd hook one and notice that they played with the food before actually taking it and getting hooked. i guess that's what they were doing, positioning the food for easy swallowing. my 2 gars do the same thing. my silver arowana and oscars just gulp the food down with little hesitation.
