Here is a picture of my new baby rays. They are about 3 weeks old and are just starting to eat mysis shrimp mixed in with their black worms. They seem to have a defect in the front part of their disks but they seem healthy otherwise. Will this fill in as they grow older or is this a birth defect? I have heard of batman rays but mine are nowhere near as extreme.

Hi Mate,
unfortunately its a birth defect so no it wont regenerate, some people like this sort of thing but its not for me.
Still you have bred rays in captivity which is an achievment in anyones book,....congratulations.

Congrats! Yeah it's a birth defect... The parents are closely related?

not correct, gr8 has a hybrid batman, has nothing to do with inbreeding... I think its just a trait that can remain dormint in some until bred with another that has this trait

well i think that looks cool so long as they are healthy

i actually have a bleekeri small spot that looks like a bulldog with a pushed in face but its healthy so i like it

Congrats!

Well, birth defect or genetics, I still love them and hopefully they will continue to be healthy and grow well. The small missing chunk out of their disk doesn't seem to affect how they eat so they should be alright.
