Hello,

I recently bought a new calico ranchu - beautiful fish! 5.5" long and doing well!

The last picture is of my lionhead... the picture made a nice background :)

That's a freakin' fat goldfish!!!!!!! The last one is really cool.

hey i always heard these guys are hardy and i had nothing but death when i tried them in my 125.What do you think?

Thanks for the comments!

He is an interesting looking fish - beauty is in the eye of the beholder :D

I'm not sure why you had problems with goldfish... was it a ranchu or other fancy variety?

They are hardy, but certain fancy varieties are more sensitive than others. They produce lots of waste, so overstocking is the typical problem. I have 5 goldfish in my 55 g tank, and I consider it stocked to the maximum, although that is accounting for future growth. Whoever decided that this was *the* fish to be in a bowl without filtration is a moron.

Certain varieties are prone to swim bladder disease, which I've lost one to.

What were the symptoms of your fish?

I love reading about exotic fish, but I really appreciate goldfish for the incredible genetic diversity among a species. I know it is selective breeding and technically artificial, but that doesn't make it any less amazing to me.

They are cool fish with neat personalities, and feeding them a varied diet is fun too... mysis shrimp, bananas, peas, kale, lettuce, oranges, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, blood worms, blueberries, garlic, broccoli, etc... :D

several types. They would be eating one day and then lethargic the next.sometimes if i remember right they would get a patchy area that their scales would stick out a bit. They were in a 125 and only started with 6 or so.Ive had tropicals and salt all my life so i dont know what the heck was going on but i still love them and wish i could do them again.

Nice! I love goldfish and I can't wait till I can setup a tank for them. Search for a thread made by JESToner about the goldfish tank he setup. It looks awesome! :)
