Hey Everyone :)

i was just wondering how come i see pics of catfishes on the palm of a hand ... how do you do it? i imagine that they do not let themselves be easily caught much less lie still on the palm.

Any special technique to share?

it's best not to hold them, but if you do, remember that many species have sharp spines on their pectoral fins and can give you a nasty pinch or poke

found that out when i was holding my Raphael behind his gills and he took a nice chunk out of my thumb :irked:

Some also have some poison on their spines that feels similar to a wasp sting if they get you (many also have a dorsal spine). Working at a fish farm, I got stuck by hundreds of channel cats from about 2" up to over 2' and unless the wound gets infected, it's no worse than getting cut/stuck with a needle or knife or something, but I got hit by a Lima shovelnose a couple weeks ago and my finger swelled and I had shooting pains all the way to my shoulder for about an hour

Make sure your hands are wet prior to handliing.

if you do not work with catfish, then keep them away from your hands. that dorsal spine is much worse than a wasp, my worst experience was with a my yellow bullheads, 1 1/2" barb stuck in my thumb for 2 minutes! tears of pain, none of joy filled my eyes soooo fast. kevlar gloves would be your best bet, even if holding smaller specimens
