I'm just wondering if pictus catfish can be kept purely as a predatory fish with a community of other predators?

I added some in with my cichlids a little while ago (oscar, severum, and acara). my cichlids are not particularly aggressive or large but they still ate 5 out of 7 of the roughly 3" pictus within a month. the two that are left get along great with my new jack Dempsey and flowerhorn though. theyre more of scavengers though. cant really compete with the cichlids for live food at feeding time.

I'm trying to find some ornate pims for my tank. methinks the pictus are too small to last when the cichlids are grown.

The last time I saw ornate pims was earlier this year at Jeff Rapps' place.

Have you thought about some four line cats? They get to 8-10" and look similar to ornate pims. They should be fine to handle the cichlids and are much more readily available.
