how big do these get? can anyone suggest other catfish that are not too hard to get that can live comfortably in a 90 gallon their whole lives?

Spotted Pictus would be a good choice.. I am finding they only max out at 6"..

Pictus cats are awesome if you like lots of movement in the tank.

Depends on what type of pictus you want. You can get a pimedulla blochii or a eg pim. 4lines grow anywhere from 10-12'' and reg. Pictus grow 5''.
