I was going to get a few of these at petsmart but someone said they are prone to ich and I need to put them in a different tank by themselves before I introduce them into my 55g with a male jd. Well I don't have any other tanks to do this. Now I am afraid to get them, what if they kill my jd (ich). Is there any catfish that can go with a male jd that isn't prone to ich. :nilly:

short answer yes.

Long answer. Pictus are easily stressed. Much of this is due to the fact that petstores often get pictus caught in the net and then send that fish home with people.

As for cats that can go in with your jack
4-line
featherfin syno
common syno
any numerous pl*cos

there are other less common cats as well

yeah raphaels are good.

Idk about multipunctatus, probably better in a african set-up given the high alkalinity needed for the fish. But im probably the last person to talk about the perfect conditions.

so the pictus catfish is a bad choice?

I wouldn't say that. I just say be careful. Ask them how long they have had the fish. Look for the usual signs of sickness and make sure you get a group of them so they will feel more comfortable in your tank. Also try and suggest that they not use a net to catch them.

In a 55 i would say:

1 4-line- mine got territorial as it got bigger, and chased the other one around.

1-2 featherfins- Same thing. 55 isnt huge and these can be feisty cats with one another.

Syno ocellifer (common syno) couldnt say. Dont really have too much experience with behavior, but i would guess one to two as well

As for pl*cos it depends on which one you go with.

Raphaels- depends on the species. spotted you could probably do a lot. Stripped less because they do get bigger, but in my experience these are slow growing cats so it just dpends.

whats the complete name of the 4 line?

umm depends on where you go

4-line pim
4-line pimelodus
ive even seen 4-line pictus

scientific name is Pimelodus blochii

you say these are less common, well i assume that means I won't be able to find them in the typical fish store. So where does one go about ordering these kinds of cats?
