Pictus catfish

So, everyone says that pictus catfish are best kept in groups. I have 2 in a 115 gallon with a firemouth and 2 small Jack Dempseys. Within a week they took up separate caves and have become hostile toward each other and my juveniles. Is it ok to keep them in there? I'm afraid once the JDs grow they'll wage war.

I have one pictus in a 220, and he's always in hiding

How would this solve territorial issues? I imagine it would just hide in a different cave.
