Has anyone ever done this?? Is it a bad idea?? I am ''inheriting '' a small tank with 2 pictus cats already in it . At the same time I am in the process of setting up a planted Discus tank. It seems to me that the cats are really active and might ''stress'' out the discus. The tank is a 40 breeder. Can anyone give me any insight on this?? Thanks in advance for all replies.

I've kept pictus cats before and all they do is swim around the bottom and close to the glass.
I feel like they have no brain haha.
They seem to only know how to swim and eat.
They don't bother anyone. Just swim :)
Discus tend to stay in the center of the aquarium so they should be fine.

dont do it. take the cat to a lfs

Thanks for the advise. Are any of you all discus keepers ?? Just curious. Anyone else ??

i keep discus and as a discus KEEPER i keep the discus best interest at heart.

while other discus HAVERS will tell you to put certain fish in with discus most of the time its a hit and miss.

discus are titled kings of the aquarium and i keep mine to suit their needs and their likings not mine,

Bravo !! Well said my friend !! Thanks. This is my first real time at keeping discus and I also want them to be the "Princes'' of entitlement in my setup. I don't have them yet but I am planning it all out and scaping the tank just for them. Step by step. :)

Quality is key.
Start with a good QUALITY discus
Keephe water QUALITY good
Feed good QUALITY food.
You'll have good QUALITY discus.

On a side not if you want a planted tank I'd recommend start with 4" discus. Ideally 5"+.

Also discus should be in groups of atleast 5 but 6+ is better. In a 40g tank I would keep a PROVEN pair.

Pictus love to cruse around, around lights out. I would not keep them with discus they would bother them IMO.

I like that your setting up a planted tank and not keeping your Discus in an antiseptic glass box.

Thanks all !!! Yes I plan to grow out at least 3 maybe 4 wild or wild looking discus ,and see how it goes. It will be my main show tank so I plan on doing it right. Thanks Aro-lover for your insight. I'll just keep the inherited pims in the 20g block they are in now til I can get them to a better home. Stay tuned for a progress thread.
