Pictus caught in net...best way to remove?

All you can do is cut the net. This is exactly why you do not use nets with these fish.
 
Yeah pretty textbook example of why you shouldn't. Just a moment of stupidity.

I cut the net to let him loose but there is still some tangled around his fin. Need to catch him and get it off, just worried about hurting it and potentially sticking myself which I hear is very painful.
 
I bought a 6" one by hand at a fish store once because they were going to net him and he got me pretty good but it's not terribly painful. They make a lot grunting noises when they are upset too. If you're too worried wear a glove. Just be careful cutting it off and you will be ok. We live and learn, not a big deal. I'd wager to say 99% of these guys get netted all the time anyway.
 
Job done. Used a rubber glove on one hand to hold the little guy and managed to pry off the net with my other hand.
All I need to do now is figure out whats wrong with my golden barbs in the other thread and I can get a good nights sleep tonight. Thanks.
