I have a small pictus catfish and the other day i noticed a notch in its whisker. later that day the gimpy half deteriated away
my water parameters (according to PETCO :grinno:)
ammonia- 0
nitrite- around 2ppm
nitrate- 10ppm (is this too high?):nilly:
ph- 6.8-7.0
soft water
temp 77 degrees F

ps: red belly pacu and jaguar got fin fungus, treating with melafix but they are new to the tank.

pss: catfish is also getting melafix

Sometimes when under stress or new water conditions can cause their whiskers to wither a bit... is the fish new? Have you done a water change recently? The 10ppm of nitrate is higher than usual, normally I start to worry when it reads 5ppm or so.

my pictus gets them nipped from time to time by the cichlids I have too... I have not seen any infections from it though, keep up with melafix, add a bit of salt, temp and more O2. if the fish are nipping at him in the night you may have to remove him altogether from that tank.

the fish is new (about three weeks) i do water changes every week about 50 percent. i have not seen any more damage since melafix but i hope the stub grows back! thanks i will do another water change tommorrow.
