I have had 2 Pictus living in a 55 gallon for a little over a year now. The biggest is a little over 4 inches, the smaller is maybe a little less then 3.5 inches, hard to tell because they never sit still.

I have read a lot of places they get territorial as they get older, and maybe 2 is not a good number. They have never fought, but for a long time, the smaller one was always so skinny. It was clear who was getting all the food. But I started to feed after lights out and the little guy started to get his share. Since they have been living together in peace so long, do you think there is a good chance they will continue to.
They don’t hang out together and they each have their own favorite hiding spot in the tank.

Tankmates are 1 Uaru, and one Orange Seam Pleco, and they all get along.

Also how much is too much for feeding? I recently tried feeder fish for the first time, and I thought there were too little because they did not touch them with the tank light on. But the next morning when I turned the lights on all 20 minnows had disappeared.

Each catfish had a swollen belly, so how long will that last them? Like If I put feeders in once a week would that be enough. I have read it’s best to keep them a little hungry because they will over eat if you let them.
Before I had been giving them shrimp pellets every 3rd day because I found that by the end of the second day they had lost the swollen belly. The same thing with the feeders after a few days the belly was gone.

pictus are really nice to have, but they are gluttons. I've NEVER had a problem with one being territorial though. But - stop feeding it feeders. They arent necessary and are HORRIBLE for them. Stick to the higher quality flakes, pellets, or frozen. They do eat pretty ridiculous amounts though. But at the same time, you clearly dont have much in your tank, so having those guys down there to clean up the bottom is actually a really good thing. I mean... you really only have ONE fish that isnt a bottom feeder. If their stomachs have a giant bulge after eating, you fed them too much.

yeah I have read that feeders have no nutirtion, but I've also heard they need live food from time to time so they can "hunt".

Sometimes they don't get a bulge, sometimes they don't. I will reduce what I feed now though

my 2 pictus have taken on an unusual trait
they have become my ghost knifes *****es!
they guard his cave not letting anyone near
and when my ghost knife goes travelling, he has 2 escorts that chase everyone away from him!
they are a tough little fish taking on anyone including my salmon cats!

would pictus wouldn't leave the side of my irwini exept to eat, then he'd go back to laying next to him. always thought that was a bit odd.

should have read: my pictus wouldn't leave the side.....

sorry bout that

Pictus are the fattest catfish :)
When I try to feed the other fish, BAM, food is gone, where?, in the pictus's tummy :D

Yes, they are territorial towards anything that comes near their hiding spot. But if you don't have any hiding spots, keep them in a group :D

But 2 is fine :)
