OK, my Pictus is probably the most entertaining fish in the community tank (when he's not hiding), but after watching him tonight I'm wondering if he's stupid or just plain stubborn!
You see he shares his hollow log with two fairly big mystery snails and tonight one of them was concentrating hard on cleaning round one end of the log, just going round and round the inside. Trouble is, that is the route the Pictus takes when he starts his nightly sojourns, he'll race back and forth out of the log, around the bottom of the tank (vacuum mouth on full) and back in the same way. There are 4 other ways out of the log but thats the way he always goes. Tonight I watched him for nearly 20 minutes going to his 'doorway', spinning round a few times 'sniffing' the snail then going back into the log, must have done this 2 or 3 times a minute. Then he seemed to have stopped, no sign of him for a couple of minutes - must have been planning his next move cos all of a sudden the Mystery snail shot out of the log and bounced clear across the tank, closely follwed by the Pictus.......and I swear he had a huge smile on his face!

Pictus cats--stupid eating machines that can definitely entertain. How big is yours? They get gnarly when they get older... Always hungry.

He's only 3" right now, got him at 2" 2 months ago, the first couple of weeks he just stuffed himself with food every chance he got, wold swim around looking like he'd swallowed a marble (5 ghost shrimp myseriously dissappeared around the same time) and grew an inch the first month. Growth has slowed since then so hopefully I'll have time to get a bigger tank before he outgrows his current home.

Funny story! I had a Pictus in my old 150g a few years back, very entertaining fish.

pictus are great, always zooming about and whatnot... the silvery color makes them look even cooler when they dash around the tank.
funny, how they interact with everything else.

That's funny!
