Pictus?

I just got a Pictus Catfish, he is about 3 inches long. I just picked him up today and he has been going crazy in the tank. I have him in a 75 gallon tank and all he does is go back and forth up and down the glass and along the surface. Is this normal? I was hoping he would just cruise the bottom; will this ever happen?
 
Yeah it pretty normal you just put him in! just keep an eye on him mine used to do it all the time
 
Pictus catfish like schools of 3 or more. I have noticed that when they are kept singly they seem to be more nervous and will constantly swim the length of the tank. Most likely you got this guy from the pet store where there were several more in the tank. The fish will adjust to the tank and most likely settle in after a while. Just like Cory's the more the merrier.
 
Sounds like my pictus when i first got him over a year ago.
This is natural timidness in the fish and will settle in time.

I recommend a nice cave setup for him/her.

Pictus are everywhere.. I have 3 of them.. Did you get more than one? They do best in groups, and should settle in a day or so....
 
Thanks for the help everyone. I just got one only because i felt like a 75 gallon tank wouldn't be enough room for three grown Pictus. Any thoughts on that?
 
a 75 would be fine for 3 pictus. the only max out a 5 inches. i have only one who is full grown in a 60 and i could easily get a few more.
