I want to use an old tank to build sump. I was wondering what you guys use and where you guys buy pieces of glass/acrylic/plexy glass/etc for the inside walls? How much does it usually go for?

You can just buy glass from your local glazier. Try to get it the same thickness as the walls of your sump. I wouldn't recommend using acrylic/plexiglass becuase silicone doesn't stick to them very well.

The first one I built i actually went and bought brand new glass from a hardware store.

After that little expensive mistake For the next few i searched on craigs list and found where people had remodled there homes and were giving away there old windows and or glass storm doors.

Thats a great idea. What did you use to cut the glass?

Window glass might be a little too thin in some cases. My personal preference is to get damaged tanks (which a lot of people will give to you for little or no money) and cut them up.

To cut glass you'll need a glass cutter, and a little bit of practice. Check out youtube. It's really not that hard.

yep glass cutter

It gets easier the thinner the glass is. IMO

the window glass i used was 1/8" and it works great and is super easy to get good clean cuts.
