Land of sun
hey guys im going to be fishin of a pier some time next week and i was wonderin what would be my best bet of catchin anything, ive seen people use multi-lined baits and people catching anything from flounder, mackerel, smelt to sharks. im not going big but for easy stuff what would be good. thanks!

I hear a lot of people here use shrimp. But i don't fish piers, I lose confidence when I see so many people fishing one spot, but I here people do quite well which is why there are so many people there lol.

Well i dont know much about west coast but i heard from my uncle squid works good. I know its just pretty much bottem fishing though so go with that.

I spent 15 years in Floida at Tampa Bay. Done alot of peir fishing. I have tryed it all and you can't beat Green Backs or Silver Shad. Hook them in the back just below the dorcel fin with a True Cricle hook (RED) and use a ss leader and 20 lb test or bigger. Go to the deep end of the peir and let it do the work. Don't use a weight if you can get by without one.
You can look this up.....try (ballooning fishing)....you tie one on your line...... It will help get you way out there where the big ones might be.
Shrimp and squid will get you trash fish all day long if you are just out for that.

I'll use sardines at the pier until i get a mackeral, then ill cut up the mackeral as bait

i went fishing off a pier at myrtle beach..i rented a pole and used shrimp..an hour later i caught a baby shark!

In a crowded pier, it could get ugly. I've seen adults fight over spots and throw tackle boxes, rods, etc. at each other. It's not unusual to see fist fights over fish when the action gets heated.

Pick a spot with lots of elbow rooms. You may not catch much fish but it's better than accidentally catching a haymaker in the face.

You'll probably spend less if you just to go the fish market and find the fish you want.

Squid works really well, then if you get any runt fish the eyeballs/meat works well.
At night time I've found the orange feeder goldfish/comet gold fish to work well. Especially in conjunction with a light.
Also, shark season passed not too long ago, but you might still nab a few late goers. Rays also appear during late nights in the warmer season if you want to nab one of those.

Wish I could help but my pier and surf fishing is way different then yours
