This is a pigfish (Orthopristis chrysoptera), a member of the grunt family and a close relative of the snapper family. Grunts vocalize by scraping their pharyngeal (throat) teeth together. This small specimen was unbelievably loud.
Documented on the gulf coast of Florida.
