Hi all, new to this section...I got two venezualan pikes a few weeks ago, around 7.5-8in in size...they were in the tank a the LFS together and stuck together like glue, and up until around 4 days ago they were the same in my tank....but now one is seriously picking on the other, they are doing some major lip locking and the less dominant is spending the whole time hiding! the aggressor also has taken a major dislike to my 7in buttikoferi....and chases him around like mad (really surprised the butti stands for it to be honest!) is this a more male like behavior in pikes? I am considering letting them go to be honest, as my otherwise peaceful set up is starting to get a bit disrupted! and I`d hate for the butti or another of the large residents to retaliate and make a mess of the aggressive Pike!

might just want to get rid of the one pike ,,,, and yes they CAN be real aggressive..

In my experience they are usually only aggro with pikes or similarly shaped fish. How big a tank do you have them in? Small tanks will make aggression worse in my opinion.

I have learned over time to not even TRY keeping any pikes with each other. It's just too much of a hassle.
I have two, and they don't care about anything other than each other - and they are not even the same species - they each are in their own mixed tank.

thanks.....will look at keeping one of them, would you say the aggressor will calm if I kept just him? he is the better looking of the two (although there isn`t that much in it,) or would it be best to keep the more submissive one?

i grew my Venezuelan pikes when they were little untill the got about 6in. and got along fine then my lima shovelnose ate them
