I don't know about spawning them, but sexing them shouldn't be hard.
The female should have white stripe running along the top of the dorsal fin. She should also have a pinkish swollen belly if she is ready to spawn. In some lugubris variants, the females will also show a lot more red on the face/gill plate as well.

Another problem is establishing a couple. You cant just toss a male in with a female as adults, its best if they have grown up with each other or other pikes. The only sure thing you will get when coupling adults is f***ed up or dead pikes.
