what would be a good diet and tank size for my pike cichlid i will have in a week or 2?By diet i mean how often should i feed it, what should i feed it, etc.Thanks.

Hey there! Welcome to Monster Fish Keepers! Tis a great community here! Glad to have ya with us!

Good diet is simple: Krill, mysis shrimp, earthworms, chopped up catfish nuggets, silversides, pellets, and sometimes even flake foods. My fav. pellets that seem to be readily accepted are Hikari Massivore Pellets. :)

As for tank size, it all depends on the species you are getting. Saxatilis will be fine in a 55gal, where as Lugubris pikes generally need to be in 75gal tanks and larger.

HTHs!

I have a snortnose gar with my pikes right now and they are okay together. The gar is about 2in longer but the pike has more weight. Pikes generally are a low level to mid level fish. Gars tend to be top level and cruise down to mid level at dusk (hunting)

Depends on the size of the gar and the size of the pike. They can work, but sometimes it doesn't. You will need to make sure that the pike is at least half the size of the gar. Being torpedo shaped has its disadvantages. ;)

pikes do pretty well i had the standard brown pike for years .. was in tank with peacock bass, and actually had him in piranha tank for a while.. Would only eat live feeders though.

Dont feed it gold fish. They need small panfish. Minnows r good but gut load them first. they like nightcrawlers and crayfish also. Gold fish can stunt their growth and r not a native food for your pike. Keep some sand stone in your tank to help with minerals in the water.
