Hi.

I hope that the Pike specialists here can help to identify the 3 species of Pike Cichlids that I have.

1. This pike was simply labeled "pike cichlid" at the LFS and no local given.

2. This pike was labeled "Venezuela(n)" at the LFS. I'm not positive if the description referred to the collection local or species ID.

3. This Pike was labeled "Trinidad" at the LFS.

Wow,

I know that I am about as bad as it gets for camera jockey, but are the pictures too bad to be able to ID the pike cichlids from? No positive ID's, any educated guesses?

1. Crenicichla Sveni (male)
2. Crenicichla sp. Venezuelan
3. Crenicichla Menezesi

2 and 3 are suggestions. 2 looks like a venezuelan put need a profile pic to confirm. The 3rd is a pike in the saxatilis group for sure. Sax pikes are tough to id tho. could be a menezesi variant or another undescribed one.

If it actually is from Trinidad, it should be a Cr. frenta.

Actually, the 2nd pike looks like johanna. Note the broad black band and proximity of the nostrils to the mouth.

1. Cr. sveni
2. Cr. sp. 'venezuela'
3. Possibly Cr. lucius. About the closest match I can think of right off the top of my mind.

Main reason say the second pike isn't johanna is because of the suborbital 'stripe' , and the 'blotch' at the base of the caudal. Johanna typically lack both.

same as i was thinking, but the "lucius" seemed to have some spangles in some of the pix
