pike cichlid questions.....

today i bought a pike cichlid i have never kept one of these guys before dont really know much about them, what size do they get, what do i feed him (i know he eats frozen bloodworms) how aggresive is he? any info will help

Hopefully someone will move this to the pike folder. Pikes range from 2.5" to (supposedly) 28" and range from terrors to mild mannered. Depends which species you got.

the lfs just labeled him pike cichlid...yellow in color black stripe and a orangeish tail fin. i will post a pic as soon as he comes out of hiding

Usually when they are labeled just "Pike" cichlid they tend to be the Cren. Venezuela species which get large and are aggressive.

sounds like a sveni most pikes are pretty mild mannered treat them the same as you would any other cichlid

Agree. I have a Xingu 1 and hes treated the same as the rest of my boys!

Post some pics, someone will be able to ID it for you. Pellets are fine to feed it, it may prefer frozen stuff but you shouldn't have too much trouble getting it to eat pellets too. And of course it will eat any live stuff it can fit in it's mouth.

Generally pikes will gorge themselves if you keep feeding, mine will try and eat as many pieces of krill as possible, until they can't fit any more in there mouth.
