What do you pike cichlid keepers suggest I get for a 90 gallon tank. I know some get pretty good size. Whats one that will max out 8-12 inches?

Crenicichla notophthalmus (the dwarf pike) is not a bad pike for a small tank.
You could have a few and other fish besides.
There are also some Crenicichla saxitilus from Uruguay that remain relatively smaller.

I'm a bit conservative, but my rule of thumb is no more than an inch adult of per 10 gallons, meaning a maximum size for me in a 90 gal would be a two or three 9" cichlids.
Now if your tank is a "90 long", and no, or few other fish present, a larger pike might work, especially if it is one of the more lethargic species.

common pikes from the fish store, and great one for beginners

Regani, Saxatallis, Compressiceps, anthrurus, stay away from lenticulatas and atabapos. Jeff w/ tangled up in cichlids has some smaller specie right now. BluegrassAquatics has saxatallis
