Guys, a friend of mine has a pike cichlid but is leaving the country for a while. so he asked me to take care of it. I dont have much trouble with it but im afraid that this fish will kill my current inhabitants. The pike is around 18 cm. Im not sure on the species but ill post pics 2night so maybe somebody can id it. In my tank i have 2 fire eels and the smallest is around 20 cm. will he be safe or is there a chance the pike will attack and kill it? My plecos and bigass polypterus wont mind the pike i think but i dont want to loose my eels. Is there a chance that the agression of the pike will cause the other fish to behave differently? The polyp and one of the plecs are big enough not be bothered but maybe he can imponate the other 2 plecs cuz he cant hurt them??? Maybe somebody here can advice me a bit as im totally new on pike cichlids.

Thanks in advance!

Look, there is no way of knowing. Some pikes can peacefully co-exist with smallish Ashricans for years. Others will decimate fish populations in hours. My male Semifasciata shared a tank with 5 Redheads, Maurilius and two cats for a year and started killing them two weeks ago. He is just in a bed mood.
The more fish there are the more likely the are to survive. Decreasing temperature helps.

I'd say the eels are dead.

Put the pike some place else. Most pikes are tough. They tolerate dirty water, severe temperature changes and go withou food for months.

hes prolly gonna kill them lateron?

I didn't say that. I don't know. But there is a possibility that it'll kill everything in a few days. It depends on the species, age and individual character.

When I first started the tank with the Semifasciata, I put in an 11" Oscar - a huge agressive beast. He almost instantly attacked the pike. The pike bit Oscars pectorial fin off, in a fraction of a second. I removed the Oscar who was floatin on it's side.

The eels are thin, he could kill them while you're looking. PM PeanutPower if you need.

I am not sure about the species, but I have one from the family. Never mind the species, this pike is an excellent hunter. I've seen him catch and swallow a 2" convict in a 55g with bricks and decor in 3 seconds.

He is tough as I said earlier. I'd set up some sort of a bucket for him if I were you.

If he decides
To kill
an eel,
He will!

Why don't you just set up your buddies tank at your house and keep the pike where he is. Less stress too.

110l is enough for him. He could live in 50l and probably a lot, a lot less for a while.
