I kept mine with other non-similar looking species (higher bodied species), and nothing small enough to swallow, in a 150gal tank, without problems.
I wouldn't keep them with Parachromis, or other elongated predatory type species.
When I got the 6 or 8 as juvies at an GCCA cichlid auction and put them in a 6 ft tank to grow out, the most dominant one (a female) ate all her brothers and sisters.
A friend who also got a bag at the same auction, ended up with a male that ate all its young brothers and sisters inches tank.
I then ended up with his male (at the time @ 6"), and as adults they were both fine tother.
