Will pikes be OK in a CA/SA community with GT's, Green Texas, Jack Dempsey's and a school of Silver Dollars in a 150 Gallon tank?

Thanks!

It's certainly possable yes.

How many of each fish do you have in the 150gal ?

IMO i'd get a much larger tank maybe a 240gal

How many Silver Dollars do you have in the school ?

Pikes can grow to quite a size as can your GT's 10"+, and Texas cichlids 12-15". also the jack dempseys can grow from 8-10" and silver dollars can hit 8/9"

1 GT, 1 texas, 1 jack and 5 silver dollars. The biggest being my GT at 4.5 inches right now.

I have a orange pike in with a jaguar & a oscar it does fine. I have also had it in with an adult green terror & worked good. I think as long as the pikes are smaller than the others you will prevent them from fin-nipping, pikes are the ones you have to watch out for they are very aggressive.

Pikes usually are only aggressive toward other pikes, fish that are too large to eat are usually safe.

I'm coming in on the end of the conversation, but I'm intrigued by some of the remarks regarding pike cichlids. I had one a long time ago (saxitalis (sp?) I believe), and he was the biggest bad-ass I've ever owned. Is there a trick to keeping one in a community tank, in my case 200g? I love their look, but assumed it was a no-go due to temperament.

Can you keep one of these guys with oscars, severums, tinfoil barbs, etc?

I have always kept pikes with SA/Ca cichclids. I have a yellow pike currently living with blood parrots, a jack dempsey, and a few other fish.

I tried it and ended up taking the pikes out. Way too much fin nipping.

sometimes it can be like cats & dogs. If you get em all same small size they grow to tolerate ea other. Also best to setup wood and caves so everyone can have they own spot.

except when breeding I always have mine in com tanks.

of course you never really know if you geting a psycho or not, especially if they alone in a tank.

i think they would be fine with the other cichlids, but the silver dollars i would stay away from. THey are pretty fragile fish. I had 3 and within a day of adding the pike all of them were dead. I guess the pike kept hitting them and they ended up dying from internal injuries.
