Hi all are pikes compatible with most other fish to big to eat or does it depend on species? i was thinking of xingu I or saxatilis cheers Paul

In my history with pikes I find that they are pretty easy to keep with other fish aside from pikes. Mine seem to hate each other and they hate anything that is shaped like a pike. My cobra bites my sun cats every chance he gets.

so wouldn't be good with SH's then?!

snakehead will tear pike apart!

i'm not talking about a red! just medium sized snakes!

ummm, i heard from a Birdie that they can work out with like sized snake heads as long as the pike doesnt kill the snake head......>Most snakes in the 12-18 inch range are more predatory then aggressive and pikes hate there shape...>FYI, smaller snakes, while they do have a nice set of teeth, have nothing like there bigger cuzzins.

hi yeah i've kept a few species of SH and only one pike so just interested to see if anyone has mixed them before but i suppose their shapes are too similar and if one has been on it's own for a while they prob won't take kindly to another like shaped fish,oh well have to wait until i set up another tank! lol thanks for replies Paul

If you buy both small and raise them in groups of 3 or more, I think you may be able to pull it off. Pikes generally hate each other too but when raised in small groups, can occassionally tolerate each other and in some case, loosely school it seems. Make sure the snakes you get are tropical and not temperate though. If they have there own homes they may be alright. Snakes are pretty much the same as pikes in attitude, hunting ability and shape, but I feel like sized pikes are more heavily built then snake heads while juvii, so watch that.

i've kept C.lepidota before and found it to be very peaceful but really was looking for a different pike to keep with the SH i already have(see signature), maybe a saxatilis or xingu I,might try and see how it goes but i'm more experienced with SH's than pikes cheers Paul
