Good point. I was so fixated on the head spots I totally missed the obvious.
Yes, it is definitely a lugubris group pike. A male. No question there. I suspect the fish has the potential to be very colorful when settled in and happy. Note the red on the operculum and running down the LL. The red spots on the head are intriguing.
Did they give any indication as to where it was collected? Brazil? Venezuela? Peru? A river system? Anything?? Without this info it is all speculation for the most part.
Indeed, those spots on the head are VERY unique. I really want to see some more pictures of this pike settled in to someones tank.
Member those sp. 'red cheek lugubris' that were for sale there in Utah a few years ago Scat? Rapps had some a while back as well. Its awesome seeing all these unique and rare pikes coming into the hobby more and more often. Tis a turning point!
Only wish we could focus more on the Rio Trombetas and Rio Xingu river systems . . . .
Hello all, another member had inquired me about this thread. I must have made it and forgot i made it ??? A few months back, I traded this into a LFS because he was getting too big for my 55g. I now have a 150 gallon, but im worried that if i get him back (hes still there) that he will mess with the rays or catfish in the 150gg. It was a great pike, but this is the pike i kept out of the two http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWXft7FZQok
Sorry, i dont have any more information on this pike. But if someone in MN is interested, they would probably let it go for $20 or so.
