This is one of 12 at one of my LFS. Was wondering if anyone had an idea of the species.

Not sure about the crenicichla lenticulata, they will normally have more markings down the sides of their body.

It looks like a crenicichla venezuela
 
Owner says they are wild caught. He wants 40$ a piece. They look cool. I don't think they are Lents though.

You are probably right. OP take my post with a grain of sand. I am an expert at not ID'ing creni's properly.
 
If the pic was a little clearer, and the fish wasnt so stressed...we could tell for sure. If there are vertical markings on the side, it could be something other than a venz
 
Most likely vennie and pretty much all pike are wild caught. A few of the smaller species have been spawned and a couple of the lugubris types, but none on a scale for distribution.
