I don't think it gets very big 12to15''?, picked him up at the lfs today as misc.
Pretty long 10'' and some nice teeth, don't think I have seen one like this so I had him net it out for me. Only back fin is near the tail and stripe near the head is almost blueish tint, may be stressed in the picture.

needle fish

I have one and although they are really common and even sold at chain stores they are pretty and neatly aggressive at the same time.

I got mine a year ago at 12'' and it would bite my 5'' mono peacock bass. Not trying to eat it just being agressive.

Mine still swims up to all my predatory characins and bumps them with its snout. Like just to poke them for no reason. Its pretty funny.

They eat live fish and are said to be very hard to break onto dead. I do not plan on trying. its a predator

If it is a needle fish it is going back, that is not going to work. Has a red stripe down the center of its back if that helps now that it has settled in. I thought it had more color to it but now that I look at it a little more it looks like a pretty big needle fish and not really like a different characin, like a bicudda or something.

They are a very cool fish. Mine is feeding on Mealworms, crickets, live or dead fish, ect. Not that it matters, but why won't it work?
Because I had $15bucks on me and the store had some nice juvi agassizi apistogramma I had my eye on but instead got this guy out of impulse. I was a little disappointed initially. Guess I could still get them another day and just keep him.:) Has some nice colors coming in now that it has settled and seems to be getting along great with the tankmates and in a much nicer home here. Nobody is bothering him.
