Well, I decided to get a nice lookin GT. And my Johanna has been kickin his tail all day. Hasn't been any actual touching, but he sure is having fun. So in response to that, the GT has been looking for things he can pick on. LOL Oh, and I did try to get a pair of GT's, but the moron dropped the one I wanted on the floor. Oh well, I guess he is newer to catching fish.

Shouldn't of killed it to have it dropped on the floor. Most of the time if my fish dropped on the floor or jump and I catch it in time, you can put them back in the tank and they turn right around...;).

About the johanna....haha...welcome to the world of pikes my man. Aggression is a part of life. Its managable, just have to watch what tankmates you add, plan accordingly. Don't put fish in there you know aren't gonna get along or that the pike will kill. Geos are generally a bad idea with most pikes..haha...although certain species it can work. Watch the aggression though man, you might have to seperate them if it gets too bad.

Well, it wasn't dead, but it was pretty tore up. Didn't want to put it through the additional stress of being introduced with the pike. ;)

Number of fish helps the aggression somewhat.....I am new to pike but they definitely are a handful. The other fish need to be bigger--much bigger, especially if you go pike greater than 6".

the best way to avoid pike agression is to not keep them:D
I'm sure peanut power has more solid advice lol

Hope it all works out with your sevs and GT.

Chad

Doesn't really seem to still be having a problem with the johanna and the GT. Crenicichla johanna aren't that bad aggression wise, towards other fish anyway...some people keep them with rays....:screwy: ...kinda risky I think but whateva. If it was Crenicichla sp. 'xingu I' though i would suggest finding more aggressive tankmates like jags, red terrors...and the like...

My Johanna iggys everyone, except the GT. The GT isn't quite as long, but is definately bigger then the pike. But the sevs are smaller, and he never even looks at them, sometimes he hangs out with the smallest gold. The pike really only goes after the GT when the GT enters one of 2 of the choice hiding spots. I hate to say this, but I am kinda glad that he/she is a little intolerant of the GT. It makes him/her spend more time in the open. So if the Pike does try to actually kill the GT, at least the pike is out in the open. Plus the throat flaring is awesome!!! And I can make room in another tank for the GT if I catch it before it gets to bad. Of course I do work 10 hours a day, so there is a chance I will miss it.:(
