I ams seriously thinking about getting some of these, and possibly breeding them. I searched info one here and the web, and just about every source said that is hard for them to accept anything but live foods. Live foods shouldn't be a real problem for me since my swordtails breed like crazy. It would certainly help with my over population problem ;)

My questions are:

Do they breed as easily as swordtails?

Should I get more females then male like other livebearers? Or is it the opposite since females will eat males?

I had a pair back then. Sold them. I kept the tank heavily planted so the male has places to hide. Mine only ate live food. They breed like crazy and I had about 80 fry.Keep them well fed or else they start eating each other. You will need to move the parents once you have fry. I didn't have a problem with my female eating the male. They are some cool fish to keep, wish I still had mine, but couldn't refuse the offer.

Cool, thanks. Did you female get 8''? Do you think $20 a fish is a lot at 5-6''?

I believe she was bigger but then again it's been a long, long time, but I do know the male was not even half the size of her. I payed $40 for the pair. Sold it for $100. Sold the babies at $15 a piece. Hope that helps.

Thanks, that does help. Do they produce as many fry as swordtails? I every week I find a new batch of fry.
